Partner Event: Golden Eagles in Our Region presented by Wildlife Research Institute
Tune in for a presentation by Wildlife Research Institute (WRI) to the Sierra Club about the Golden Eagle Alliance, which is advocating for the protection of this sensitive species throughout the County. WRI and SD Audubon's collective group of volunteers have focused their efforts to protect a nesting pair located in Bandy Canyon, where recreational trails are encroaching on nesting habitat. This presentation will provide information on our local Golden Eagles, as well as provide an update on how this team is working to ensure that we don't lose another critical Golden Eagle breeding territory in SD Country to human disturbance.
Katie Quint is a local wildlife biologist and currently serves as the Research Director for the non-profit organization, Wildlife Research Institute, based in Julian. Katie is in the 10th year of her career specializing in Golden Eagle studies. She manages WRI's satellite telemetry study tracking long-range movements of 63 golden eagles, rappels to install cameras documenting eaglet development, flies in open (doors off) helicopters to survey for county-wide eagle occupancy and productivity, and contributes to various wildlife agencies to ensure informed eagle management in the West.
