SDAS In the News: ‘Super Bowl of birding:’ 7 birds to watch for as millions fly through San Diego this spring

It's the time again - Spring migration is here!

What birds can you look forward to seeing? Check out this San Diego Union-Tribune article featuring 7 birds to watch for. The article includes insights from our lead ornithologist Lesley Handa, along with tips for spotting and identifying specific species.

Did you know that over 80% of North America's migratory birds travel at night? They are highly susceptible to light pollution, which can cause them to be disoriented or collide with buildings, as well as delay migration.

But you can help! One of the best ways to help our migrating friends this season is to turn off non-essential lighting at night. For essential lights, we encourage residents to install motion sensors, make sure outside lights are aimed down and shielded, and use warm colored bulbs (<3000 Kelvin).
