About Us

How do I get more birds to visit my yard?

San Diego Audubon highly recommends use of native plants in your yard to attract birds and contribute to their health. California Native Plant Society, San Diego Chapter, is a great resource for native plant gardening and resources. If you're looking for bird feeder, houses or other supplies, Wild Birds Unlimited is a great, local resource. Watch this informative video, Attracting Backyard Birds, created by long-time supporter of San Diego Audubon, Mike Matherly.

For a wealth of information on this topic, visit National Audubon's Plants for Birds database.

We are also kicking off a new project, Native Seed Libraries, which are a great resource for getting free seeds for your yard.

The Fish and Wildlife Services has tips on how to safely attract birds to your yard, including how to provide food and water - see here.
