By-catch (the unintentional capture of wildlife by fishing gear) is one of the most serious threats to seabirds, resulting in the death of hundreds of thousands of birds every year. Longline fisheries - fisheries which employ fishing line/hooks that drag for up to 50 miles, often left for days at a time - are one of the most deadly to these birds.
Join San Diego Audubon staff and volunteers, and members of Oceana and Audubon CA, as we oppose a proposed longline fishery off of our coastline.
We will have the opportunity to provide public comment at the Pacific Fishery Management Council meeting (the federal body that oversees fisheries management), and we would love to have you show up for seabirds. We will provide talking points, and we appreciate your presence even if you don't choose to speak.
