Old Mission Dam is a favorite destination for birding year round. Resident species include California Thrasher, both Towhees, Wrentit, Bewick’s Wren, House Wren, and Nuttall’s Woodpecker. We will keep watch for Spring arrivals such as Ash-throated Flycatcher,
Phainopepla, Black-headed Grosbeak, Western Tanagers, Western Kingbirds, Grasshopper Sparrows, and Blue Grosbeaks. Migrants now being seen are Yellow, Wilson’s, and Townsend’s Warblers. This walk will cover varied terrain and focus on riparian woodland around the historic dam and the nearby grassland. Porta-potty at the trailhead. Intended for newer birders. Capped
at 12 participants.
