Exploring San Diego's Shrublands
Exploring San Diego's Shrublands is a five-lesson interdisciplinary curriculum anthology that has been reviewed and approved by the San Diego County Office of Education. Focusing on chaparral and coastal sage scrub ecosystems, this curriculum integrates local native habitat content into existing core classroom curriculum. Designed to reach children of all learning styles, the lessons can be used individually or together and can replace or supplement current lessons. Exploring San Diego's Shrublands is aligned with the fourth grade California State Content Standards in Science and English Language Arts but it can also be adapted to other grades.
The curriculum was developed by the San Diego Children and Nature Collaborative (SDCaN), a regional collaborative of organizations, individuals, and companies with the mission to inspire communities to nurture, empower, and engage youth in cultivating their relationship with nature.
