Sit back, relax, and enjoy birdy bluegrass music from one of the most respected duos in the business. This program will include the traditional tunes and Americana favorites the duo is known for, as well as musical selections where birds are the main characters. CDs will be available for purchase.
Since forming a musical partnership in 1986, Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum have recorded 12 albums and performed around the globe. These Grammy-nominated artists are widely regarded as among the leading lights of modern bluegrass and are highly-prized by their peers and the public alike. Sing Out! magazine recently stated, “It’s not too much of a stretch to suggest that if the ‘Americana’ format wasn’t invented for her, it should have been.” Laurie has twice been recognized by the International Bluegrass Music Association as Female Vocalist of the Year. She is known amongst bird enthusiasts for her 2004 "Birdsong" album, which continues to raise funds for Northern California’s Audubon Canyon Ranch, a wildlife preserve and education center. New England native Tom Rozum "possesses an earnest tenor voice in the vein of contemporary bluegrass great Tim O'Brien, and peels off rhythmically crisp licks on mandolin and guitar.” (Derk Richardson). Together, they create beautiful harmonies, backed by expert instrumentals.
Every year, they take some time away from touring to make at least one river trip. They have traveled the Rio Grande through Big Bend and the Taos Box, wound down the Salt River in Arizona, the Chama in Northern New Mexico, Oregon's Rogue, the Middle Fork of the Salmon in Idaho, and Northern California's Tuolumne.
