Thomas Guide: 1176: E2 (south of Lake Cuyamaca)
The Cuyamaca Mountains host birds that we do not often see closer to the coast. We will seek Mountain Chickadee, Oak Titmouse, Nuthatches, Jays, Woodpeckers, and others. A great time to be in the mountains. Moderately strenuous hiking. Restrooms at the trailhead. State Park fee required. Bring water.
Go east on Highway 8 to Route 79. Turn north following the signs for 79 toward Julian; proceed past Green Valley Campground to Paso Picacho Campground on the left, about 12 miles total from Highway 8. Park in day use area.
