Cropped CACondor StrausWednesday, May 7 - Wednesday, May 14, 2014

Tour Operator: Andiamo Travel

San Diego Audubon Contact: Karen Straus

Info: Spend a week with San Diego Audubon as we learn about and hopefully see in the wild the magnificent and highly endangered California Condor. Approximately 200 birds survive in the wild and another 200 in captive breeding programs. The trip beings with an introductory seminar on the California Condor and recovery efforts spearheaded by the San Diego Zoo’s Global Wildlife Conservancy. Then we travel by motor coach and van to San Pedro Martir, Baja California, to a condor release site where we hope to see North America’s largest bird, with a wingspan of 10 feet. The trip continues through Sedona Red Rocks for hiking to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, where we hope to see free-flying condors soaring over the canyon. There will be additional birding and stops at Native American cliff dwellings on the return to Phoenix. The trip concludes in Phoenix with a flight home.

Price: The cost is $2,050 per person, double occupancy and includes all ground transportation, food, lodging, condor lectures, guides, and a donation to the Global Wildlife Conservancy condor recovery program. Airfare and tips to guides and drivers are not included.

Info: Home to spectacular glaciers, thermal hot springs, and hundreds of volcanoes, it's no wonder that Iceland is known as the land of fire and ice. The country's avifauna is equally impressive, with its remote location at the junction of two oceans making for a unique mix of vagrant and migratory birds from both the east and west. Join San Diego Audubon Society travelers on this nine-day exploration of some of Iceland's best birding spots, from Lake Myvatn to Europe's largest bird cliff, for the chance to observe an array of species, including puffins, auks, petrels, cormorants, gannets, gulls, terns, waders, stilts, and birds of prey, as well as whales.

Price: The cost is $3,850 based on double occupancy; the single supplement is $820. The cost does not include gratuities or round-trip international airfare, estimated at $1,680 from San Diego.
