Birdathon 2010
As sure as April arrives every year and the spring migration is at its peak, so too arrives San Diego Audubon's annual Birdathon fundraiser. Since the Birdathon is one of only two fundraisers San Diego Audubon conducts each year, it is critically important that this event be financially successful, thus ensuring the conservation, education, and other programs of our chapter continue to be fully funded.
What is a Birdathon?
For those of you who are not familiar with the concept of a Birdathon, here's what it's all about: team members solicit pledges and donations, either on a per-species basis or fixed dollar amount, from individuals or organizations. The teams observe as many species as possible during a 24 hour period of their choice then advise their donors of the total count. Donors then mail the appropriate amount to SDAS. To download a information and donation form click here. You can participate in one of three ways:
Organize a Birdathon Team
Invite some birding buddies to share in a fun day observing our avian friends. Any 24 hour period in April meets the criteria. Besides gathering species and raising funds for SDAS, plan on enjoying the simple pleasure of being out in nature. If you'd like to learn more about organizing a team, contact Chris Redfern at (858) 273-7800.
Go on a Guided Birdathon Field Trip
Join us Saturday, April 17 to celebrate our love for birds and help San Diego Audubon raise funds essential to our work saving endangered places and species in San Diego County. This year's Guided Birdathon Trips will take place at three well-known birding locations: San Elijo Lagoon, Santee Lakes and the San Diego River Estuary. Experienced Audubon trip leaders Jack Friery, Claude Edwards, and John Walters will facilitate finding many kinds of birds at these locations between 8 and 11am, and are expected to result in 40 to 60 bird species.
We're asking that all Birdathon field trip participants raise or donate at least $25 as an expression of your appreciation for all SDAS does to make San Diego a more avian-rich destination for all to enjoy (including the birds). Call our office at 858-273-7800 to RSVP. We'll send you a Birdathon Packet including a free birding checklist, pledge form, and resources to help making the fundraising aspect of this event fun and easy. See below for directions to each field trip location.

Sponsor a Birdathon Team
If you can't join a team, you can support a Birdathon Team by pledging an amount per species or donating a fixed dollar amount to your favorite team. A Birdathon fund appeal letter listing the teams will be mailed to all SDAS members in April. Our Birdathon Teams and volunteers appreciate your financial support of this very worthy cause.
Come join the 2010 Birdathon and support the San Diego Audubon Society.
