San Diego Children and Nature Collaborative
San Diego Audubon Society is a founding member of the San Diego Children and Nature Collaborative which was founded in 2009 by individuals and educational, environmental, and community groups with shared concerns that today’s children have less and less opportunity to experience nature. Over 50 organizations and corporations are collaborating to promote access for San Diego’s children to learn in nature and play outdoors. The Collaborative is building on a national movement and network of programs in more than 60 cities, states, and countries called the Children and Nature Network, inspired by Richard Louv’s book Last Child in the Woods. Knowing that children who learn and play in nature are happier, healthier, and smarter, the Collaborative’s organizations, corporations, and individuals are working together to preserve and expand access to nature experiences for all children in the San Diego region.
